Botulinum toxin
BTX- A (Botox) is a substance that relaxes the muscles. Botox treats overactive facial expression muscles which cause wrinkles. Your wrinkles will then diminish or disappear. Your skin becomes smooth again. Botox is the world's number one anti-wrinkle treatment.
Therapy with Botox
Depends on the depth of the wrinkles, but also on certain facial expressions that occur, the so-called expression lines. The following are the most common:
- Frown Wrinkles: between the eyebrows (by frowning)
- Forehead Wrinkles: on the forehead
- Crow's Feet: besides the eyes (crow's feet by laughing)
- Gummy smile
Wrinkles occur because the muscles under the skin often contract.
With a Botox injection, these muscles are partially disabled, hereby greatly reducing expression lines and making your skin smoother.
The treatment itself takes up to 10- 15 minutes and can be considered lunch therapy (therapies that can be performed during your lunch break). The Botox treatment is performed with a very thin needle directly into the relevant muscle. The injections are safe and painless, there is no need for anaesthesia. Any unpleasant aftereffects will subside very quickly, often within 15- 20 minutes. You can immediately resume your daily activities.
After treatment
The use of alcohol should be stopped at least 24 hours in advance. Administration of anticoagulants should be stopped 7 days in advance.
The effect of the treatment can be seen after 2 to 3 days and takes up to 4- 6 months. Repeating the procedure ensures that the effect lasts longer. The treatment can be improved by association with other methods of removing wrinkles (peeling or laser).
Contraindications
BTX- A (Botox) should not be used in cases of:
1. Known allergy or hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A or albumin.
2. Muscle diseases, neurological diseases, such as Myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
3. Any infection at the intended injection sites.
4. Certain medications: antibiotics such as aminoglycosides or calcium channel blockers.
5. Pregnancy and lactation.
Other indications of Botox
Headache (Migraine) treatment
BTX-A (Botox) blocks the sensory stimuli that the pain nerves bring across to the brain. Botox relaxes the muscles of the forehead.
Decreased headache is often a pleasant side effect of Botox anti-wrinkle treatments. Botox injections have therefore become one of the most popular treatments for migraine.
The price of Botox treatment is sometimes covered by insurance. (Or the insurance may reimburse the cost of treatment, depending on your type of insurance ).
Hyperhidrosis treatment
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. People with hyperhidrosis may sweat even when the temperature is low or when they are at rest. Primary focal hyperhidrosis usually affects the armpits, palms, and soles.
Sweating helps the body stay cool. In most cases, it is perfectly natural. People sweat more at high temperatures, when they exercise, or in response to situations that make them nervous, angry, embarrassed, or afraid.
However, excessive sweating also occurs without such triggers. People with
hyperhidrosis appear to have overactive sweat glands. The uncontrollable sweating can lead to significant discomfort, both physical and emotional.
Botulinum toxin is used for the treatment of excessive sweating in the axillary region, hands or feet areas.
The injected substance blocks the nerve signals that normally stimulate the sweat glands.
Excessive sweating treatment lasts between 20 and 30 minutes and the effect lasts up to 6 months.
Teeth grinding (Bruxism)

Bruxism is excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching. Bruxism is a common behavior. There are two main types of bruxism. One occurs during sleep and one during wakefulness.

Several symptoms are associated with bruxism, including:
-
Hypersensitive teeth
-
Aching jaw muscles
-
Headaches
-
Damage to teeth
In addition to a positive effect on migraine and other muscle-related headaches, we can properly remedy teeth grinding with Botox. Most of the time the target of the treatment is the masticatory muscle.

How does Botox treatment for clenching and grinding work?

Injecting small doses of Botox (botulinum toxin) directly into the masseter muscle (the jaw), weakens the muscle enough to stop habitual grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw. This significantly relaxes the muscle and reduces the wear and tear on the teeth due to bruxism (the action of clenching or grinding).

When will I notice the results?

In about four days from the treatment, you will feel that you can’t use your jaw muscle easily. Within two weeks you will have the optimal result of the treatment.
How many times do I need to have this treatment?

After three to six months you need to repeat the treatment, but this differs per person and per situation. The more often the treatment is carried out, the longer the result of the treatment will last.

Bruxism treatment is £ 350 for the first visit (consultation and treatment) and £ 300 for subsequent treatments.
